Printmaking

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
My artwork showed movement through the plants that are bent in the background. For balance I have the heavy seahorse balanced wit some heavy plants. It is unified because it all makes an underwater scene come together.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
I added contrast and texture by cutting deeper in some parts. Also not even cutting into any parts. Yes, this is important because to make the stencil look good you need to have contrast and texture.

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
I did this by choosing to color parts of my sketch black and parts of it white. I then cut the black parts out of the linoleum to show this.
4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
I think my cuts were detailed enough for you to tell what the overall picture is. I would say it has an overall good appearance.

5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.
Yes, there was depth in my art. There was the plants for the background and middle ground, and the seahorse for the foreground.

6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
I did enjoy doing the printmaking, but I did have some obstacles. It was difficult to get all of the pieces of plant to show, even though all of them were not carved out all the way. The seahorse stood out really well though!

Print Sketch

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
Texture is important to have in my sketch becuase it helps the animal look more realistic. It is a step up from how we used to draw animals when we were younger. It really makes the sketch seem more alive.
2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
It is neccessary to have several references of each animal and each background because it gives you different ideas that you will be able to combine into one. References are needed to help you make a successful sketch because without it your drawing will probably not look much like the animal you intended it to look like. Having options is always a good idea, and many references will really make your picture come together.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
Yes, when I look at my sketches I am able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print. I know this because the print needs to be an animal with a quality looking background. That way you can just take a part of the whole sketch to make the print with.

Chalk Mural

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
I enjoyed working as a team on this mural. It was a great experience and I think ours turned out well. We all decided on a different part of the mural to do, and then started the mural. I would love to work as a team again, on another project.

2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
When working on a team it is important to collaborate. This is because everyone needs a different part of the project to be working on. Some people are good at one thing, and others are good at another.

3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I would say this project was pretty successful in the end. In the beginning it didn't look like it was going to work out well but it ended up looking really good. Everyone in our group contributed in their own way, and it really came together as one.

4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school?
I thought the idea of creating artwork that people at our school can interact with was a really cool idea! We got to actually go out of the classroom and add a touch of creativity to our school. It gave us the chance to show off our hard work, and it gave other people the chance to take cool looking pictures.
