Anamorphosis Drawing

1. Describe the process you went through to change your object into the correct perspective to create the drawing. This is when you were in the lab.
In order to create the picture in the right perspective I had to go into photoshop and strech it long ways, and stretch the top of the picture too. This will transform it to give it a perspective look.

2. How did distorting and stretching the object allow for you to create a drawing that would look different to the viewer?
By streching and distoring it, it becomes a perspective piece of work. The values and the shadows help to make it look different from different angles. It all just depends on which way you look at it.

3. What were the most important concepts in the project to make it successful?
One of the most important concepts was to first make sure you had a grid drawn, and that it was not crooked or anything. Another important concept was to make sure that you used the colored pencils to shade the drawing correctly.

Game Drawing in Perspective

Personally, I did not like this project. I am not a big fan of drawing or perspective drawing in this case. I feel my piece turned out prety good, but it was definitely not as good as some other people's amazing drawings. It was difficult for me to draw the circles from a perspective point of view, and it was also difficult to draw the game pieces. I did like getting the chance to use colored pencils, and then overlap the colored pencils with watercolor, and blend them together. It helped to show the highlights, values, and shadows. If I were to do this project over again I would allow people to draw more than just game boards, get creative and draw scenes from outdoors and such. From completing this piece it helped me to better understand perspective and using a vanishing point in my drawing.

Famous Landmark Stencil Critique

1. I changed my photo by using Photoshop. In photoshop I used the threshold. This changed the picture from color, to only black and white parts.
2. When creating my collage background I decided I just wanted to use a bunch of torn up pieces from an old book. My background didn't really relate to the picture in a certain way but I decided I wanted to spray paint the background, and I choose to do a purple middle, and blue outside outline.

3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil.
I used positive and negative space in creating my stencil. I did this by only cutting out the parts that were black on the image, and leaving the white space.

4. When using the xacto knife you must be careful to not point the tip at your self or towards anoyone else. Always make sure that you screw the knife on all the way so it is not loose and does not fall out. You use the knife by pointing the blade down, and slowly cutting out whatever you need to. I did not find it very difficult to use an xacto knife.

5. I liked working with the spray paint, it helped to add contrast to the artwork, and my own unique touch. Putting my stencil in the middle made it become more of the center of attention and helped people to realize that it was the statue of liberty. I think overall my artwork had a good composition.

Printmaking

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
My artwork showed movement through the plants that are bent in the background. For balance I have the heavy seahorse balanced wit some heavy plants. It is unified because it all makes an underwater scene come together.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
I added contrast and texture by cutting deeper in some parts. Also not even cutting into any parts. Yes, this is important because to make the stencil look good you need to have contrast and texture.

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
I did this by choosing to color parts of my sketch black and parts of it white. I then cut the black parts out of the linoleum to show this.
4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
I think my cuts were detailed enough for you to tell what the overall picture is. I would say it has an overall good appearance.

5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.
Yes, there was depth in my art. There was the plants for the background and middle ground, and the seahorse for the foreground.

6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
I did enjoy doing the printmaking, but I did have some obstacles. It was difficult to get all of the pieces of plant to show, even though all of them were not carved out all the way. The seahorse stood out really well though!

Print Sketch

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
Texture is important to have in my sketch becuase it helps the animal look more realistic. It is a step up from how we used to draw animals when we were younger. It really makes the sketch seem more alive.
2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
It is neccessary to have several references of each animal and each background because it gives you different ideas that you will be able to combine into one. References are needed to help you make a successful sketch because without it your drawing will probably not look much like the animal you intended it to look like. Having options is always a good idea, and many references will really make your picture come together.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
Yes, when I look at my sketches I am able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print. I know this because the print needs to be an animal with a quality looking background. That way you can just take a part of the whole sketch to make the print with.

Chalk Mural

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
I enjoyed working as a team on this mural. It was a great experience and I think ours turned out well. We all decided on a different part of the mural to do, and then started the mural. I would love to work as a team again, on another project.

2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
When working on a team it is important to collaborate. This is because everyone needs a different part of the project to be working on. Some people are good at one thing, and others are good at another.

3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I would say this project was pretty successful in the end. In the beginning it didn't look like it was going to work out well but it ended up looking really good. Everyone in our group contributed in their own way, and it really came together as one.

4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school?
I thought the idea of creating artwork that people at our school can interact with was a really cool idea! We got to actually go out of the classroom and add a touch of creativity to our school. It gave us the chance to show off our hard work, and it gave other people the chance to take cool looking pictures.

Value Portrait

1. The first step to creating my value drawing was to trace the different shades of the picture I was given. Then I had to transfer the shading parts over to my sketch book. I then looked from my drawing to my sketch book and began to draw the face. I started out with the darkest shades and went to the lightest.

2. I found the different values in the portrait by first taping a piece of transferring paper to the front of the black and white picture of the boy. I then traced all of the different shades that I found on the picture. After I thought I found all the different shading I went back to double check and see if I missed any.

3. I think I did achieve a full range of different values in my portrait. I did this by first starting with his shirt which is the darkest shade. I then went to his face and shaded the whole thing lightly and went back and shaded the parts that needed to be shaded darker.

4. I would say my craftmanship for this project was pretty good. It turned out a lot better than I thought it was going to look. I think I executed this project and crafted it well.

5. During this project I did have some obstacles I had to overcome before I moved on to the next step. One obstacle I had was finding all of the different shades of color in his hair and face. Another obstacle I had was making the colors on his face really blend together.

Pastel Figures

This week we worked on drawing figures and giving them value. On this day we used pastels and blended them to make the figures shaded and give them  value. I like working with pastels, the colors are just so bright and exciting! I feel like this project was pretty successful, mine may not look just like the example we were shown, but it is my own original artwork. It was harder to do the 9 shades off of the value chart with pastels, but the pastels make the overall shape look better. From this piece I learned how to give shapes value, and how to blend the pastels. If I were doing this project over again, I would make more colors of pastels available to everyone.
